An Inconvenient Ride
To raise public awareness about local environmental initiatives emerging throughout the nation, a remarkable group of elementary and high school students from Seattle, Washington are riding bicycles across the country in an Inconvenient Ride.
The Inconvenient Ride, comprised of eight students from Gatewood Elementary and Sealth High in Seattle is traveling through cities which have signed on to Seattle Mayor, Greg Nickels’, Climate Protection Initiative. The students began their ride across the United States in Washington D.C. on March 31 and will be stopping in Santa Rosa on 8:30 AM, Friday, April 18 in Courthouse Square. Please join us in the Downtown that morning to welcome this group of extraordinary students to Santa Rosa.
Along their cross country route, the students have been meeting with local government and school officials in each of the participating cities to share information on what Seattle is doing to reduce its carbon footprint, and to share ideas on how to get students actively involved in local environmental projects. The 5,400 mile Inconvenient Ride culminates with the group arriving in Seattle on Earth Day, April 22.
National Signature Campaign
Along the ride the students hope to collect over 10,000 signatures from governors, local officials, residents and students to demonstrate that across the country people from all walks of life are committed to protecting the environment The signatures will be displayed in on a large banner created by artists in Seattle. Let's help them meet their signature goal!
